Summer Arts Workshops 2012
 Welcome to Theater in the Open's Summer Arts Workshop! Our Summer Arts Workshop is a fun-filled, sun-kissed, magical and creative way to learn and grow. The Summer Arts Workshop is a place where young people have the opportunity to be creative and build lasting relationships with their peers in a safe, non-competitive environment designed for personal and artistic growth. Our professional staff of artists and educators are dedicated to providing our students with a positive, creative, artistic experience.
Theater in the Open's Summer Arts Workshop offers several choices for a wide range of students. Our two week sessions for young people ages 6 -12 offers fundamentals in acting , movement, visual arts and improvisation, culminating in a short performance at the end of each session. For students ages 9-12 who want a challenge, we offer our six week Performance Class. Participants in this class will be involved in a full scale production from auditions to set building to opening day. We also offer a Teen Intensive Workshop, where students ages 13 - 16 participate in a 4 week intensive process, culminating in a production that is always worth a standing ovation.
Aftercare is available from 2 PM to 5 PM for an additional fee of $8 an hour and can be arranged on a week to week basis with Kelley Knight, the staff member in charge of the program. Kelley is a dedicated educator and certified Montessori teacher.
Limited scholarships are available to qualified families thanks in part to a generous grant from Newburyport's Institution for Savings.

Theater Arts Workshop 2012
(Ages 6 to 12)
Theater in the Open and Maudslay State Park provide a summer camp setting like no other for our annual Workshop. The program includes fundamentals in acting, music, dance, improvisation, and the visual arts. A professional staff of artists and educators creates a supportive and non-competitive environment that fosters personal and artistic growth. On the final day of each session, at 1pm, family and friends are invited to a Share Day to see what our students have been learning. Most importantly, it's two weeks of pure FUN!

Theater in the Open's Summer Arts Workshop will be held at The Gatehouse, 1 Spring Lane at the Maudslay State Park. Directions.
When
Three two-week sessions are offered. Each session will be held from Monday through Friday, 9 am to 2 pm. Sessions are as follows:
Session I: July 2 - July 13
Session II: July 16 - July 27
Session III: August 6 - August 17
Cost
$425 for each session. A hand silk-screened Theater in the Open T-shirt and all other supplies are included. Family and friends are invited to Share Day at 1 PM on the last day of eaxh session to see what the students have been working on.

Enrollment is limited. To ensure your child's place in the session of your choice, print a copy of the form (right click and select Print from the options) for each child you wish to enroll, fill it out and send it with a non-refundable deposit of $75 each by June 15, 2012 to Theater in the Open, P.O. Box 215, Newburyport, MA 01950. Make checks payable to "OnStage, Inc." Balance is due on or before the first day of the session. A 10% discount is given to each additional family member.

Performance Class 2012
(Ages 9 - 12)
Theater in the Open is proud to be offering our performance class to those who have had some experience in theater and are looking for something a bit more challenging. This class is designed to make the student an integral part of every aspect involved in a production from start to finish. The participants will audition, rehearse and construct an actual production to be performed at the end of the Workshop. Family and friends will be invited to the performances on Friday, August 17th at 4 PM and again on Saturday, August 18th at 11 AM as part of our Family Hour in the Open program. This class is a perennial favorite amongst our students. Many of our current long time company members started with Theater in the Open through the Performance Class and look back on their experience with great fondness.

Please note that this is a full six-week class, July 2 - August 17. Please note that there is a week long break from July 30 - August 3. The class will meet Monday through Friday, 9 am to 2 p.m.

Teen Intensive Workshop 2012
(Ages 13 to 16)
No experience necessary. Students will be introduced to and practice a variety of theater skills including vocal production, character development and improvisation. After learning to work with each other on stage, students will create a final production to be performed for friends and family.
