Audition for Theater in the Open’s Summer Show
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
What happens when fairies interfere with human hearts? In A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, mistaken identities, enchanted forests, and chaotic romance create one of theater’s most beloved comedies. This collaborative production will be created through an ensemble-driven process, centering movement, physical storytelling, and shared artistic discovery. Elizabethan actors didn’t have a director to give them blocking, and neither will we; our blocking will be new and dynamic for every performance as the ensemble reacts to new choices made and new games played. Our rehearsal process therefore, will focus less on text and more on ensemble movement.
Performances will take place on the last weekend in July and the first weekend in August. Additional dates for touring will be confirmed in consultation with cast. Most performances will take place outside– comfort with outdoor performance (and sunscreen and bug spray) is essential.
