Each year we kick off our year end appeal with a day of community—Giving Tuesday. Last year we raised nearly $5000 in 24 hours, and this year we’re hoping to do it again. Having been awarded the Gatehouse Curatorship, and with expanding programming coming in 2019 for our 40th Season, we are enthusiastic to raise funds so that we can keep doing the work we love—free theatre, youth arts education, and historic restoration. maudslay is haunted
Maudslay is Haunted is Theater in the Open’s notorious annual haunting of Maudslay State Park. This event has grown to become one of our largest annual fundraisers. It's also the perfect way to spend an autumn day in New England.
Each year, volunteers develop playfully spooky skits, make masks, design costumes, organize food donations, sell tickets, distribute pumpkins, paint faces — the list goes on and on. And each year, more people come out to participate, making this an event brimming with community spirit. This year we reached a new attendance record with over 2,200 visitors.
This all-ages, family event is a one-hour walk through eerie vignettes, spooky sketches and haunting scenes. Admission is $10, additional donations in any amount are appreciated, and children 4 and under are free. We also have warm cider, donuts and other treats for sale.
GATES ARE OPEN from 1:30 – 4 PM. October 20th and 21st, 2018.

Maudslay is Haunted Garage Fundraiser
During the 2018 Annual Maudslay is Haunted Fundraiser on October 20th and 21st, we will be “selling” the cedar shingles that are being used to renovate the garage. These shingles can be decorated with the arts supplies that we will bring to the trail, and after your art is ready, we will affix the shingles to the garage. The shingles will be placed art-side in, so as to protect the historic look of the Gatehouse property, and your artwork will become part of Theater in the Open—literally! Presenting Circus Smirkus is another highlight of the season that has become a highly anticipated area event. It’s also an important fundraiser for us, combining the efforts of two non-profit organizations, both committed to youth arts education.
You have to see Circus Smirkus in action to believe it — these circus stars, ages 11 to 18, bring youthful exuberance and polished circus skills from across the country and around the world. Everyone who enters the big top leaves with a smile on their face, knowing that they’ve just seen something truly special.
Theater in the Open relies on the help of dozens of volunteers to present this event, people who house the performers, hand out flyers, "run" in the Yankee Homecoming Bed Race, work at the shows...there are many ways to get involved. And don't forget the importance of buying tickets and getting 356 of your closest friends to do so, too!

This event speaks for itself. Watch for announcements for the date and time each year and come out to Flatbreads Pizza in Amesbury to share a meal with friends and support Theater in the Open! We are grateful to Flatbreads for helping by donating a percentage of every pizza sold on that night to our Summer Arts Workshop Scholarship Fund.
