Concrete Bouquet:
A Day of Dance in Nature

October 1st, @ 2 pm in Maudslay State Park

The purpose behind Concrete Bouquet: A Day of Dance in Nature is to build collective consciousness around climate change through dance in a way that is rooted in love. First, a dance performance will be shared on an outdoor stage with the forest as its backdrop. The theme of the show is centered around the resilience of Nature. “How can we look to Nature for inspiration for how we move forward together as a human society in a warming world?” The performance will include choreography by Contemporary Dance majors at The Boston Conservatory and Exit Dance Theatre choreographer, Julie Pike Edmond!

After the performance, a few dancers from the show will co-lead an optional dance workshop for all audience members and performers in a nature-filled spot on the grounds. All bodies are welcome and everyone is encouraged to join in! There will be live music! The goal of the workshop will be to introduce participants to another avenue through which they can connect with the Earth and build a personal connection with it. Just 15 minutes in Nature is proven to change a person’s physiology! Furthermore, our bodies are designed to move and live in nature, so this workshop will help participants unlock their bodies’ innate wisdom and calm down their nervous systems.

Theater in the Open will be hosting us on their outdoor stage at The Gatehouse, 1 Spring Lane, Newburyport MA.  Bring a picnic blanket for the performance! Limited seating will be available, so feel free to bring your own.  Additionally, we will be taking a little hike to the dance workshop location from the stage, so wear comfortable shoes and tennis shoes for the workshop portion of the Day of Dance!
