We’ve shared with you our big-top dream – turning Amesbury's City Hall Auditorium into an all-day circus! Big top dreams have large-scale impact: City Hall Circus will celebrate local artists, showcase internationally-renowned artists right here in our home town, and partner with municipal and corporate partners.
City Hall Circus is a big deal for Theater in the Open, and we're thrilled to be working with some amazing partners to bring it to life. We're excited to partner with Amesbury Recreation Department and the Mayor's Office in order to access Amesbury City Hall. Millyard Market Collective will be providing a circus "midway" featuring local artisans. The Center in Amesbury is working with young community members building a Cardboard Petting Zoo (get involved here!) and soon, we'll launch registration for a circus workshop that will highlight local young performers in the live circus. Many thanks to the ECCF for supporting this project with a partnership grant!
We envision that this is an opportunity to visit a civic space for another reason than to pay a parking ticket or water bill, purchase a permit, or register to vote. Perhaps if we come together in our civic spaces for joyful and exciting events like this, we can all feel more comfortable engaging in our community development and governance, including voting and more.
